On the handwriting that never appeared

On the handwriting that never appeared

On the handwriting that never appeared

Proust left a page blank where his signature should have been. On the blanks our artists keep.

Every work in The Whisper of the Unopened Gate was chosen for a mark that refuses to finish itself — a line that stops, an edge left raw, a signature displaced onto the painting's quietest corner.

This is a note about those unfinished places, and about why the gallery began by looking at them.
